Top management of
Gazprom is obsessed with the idea of bypassing Ukraine. To
materialize it, there is no need to build new pipelines to
Baumgarten and/or Arnoldstein. A shorter link across Romania
and Hungary to
Slovakia would do it at a much lower cost
(yellow dotted line). According to the
press-release of Gazprom, gas pipeline capacity of Slovakia is
rated at 93 bcm/year and it can be expanded to 113 bcm/year.
Note that with a link
between Bovanenkovo and Yamburg, the existing pipelines of West
Siberia can evacuate all gas produced in the Yamal peninsula and
"old" West Siberian fields.
